Primary Colours Sligo 2024 Projects

2024 Programme

Our 2024 Artist in Schools’ Residency artists were Karen Webster and Kathryn Maguire. The residencies took place in two Sligo schools followed by an exhibition which was made up of a collection of artwork created by the artists during the Primary Colours Art Education Residency 2024.

The artist in schools' residency was based over 9 weeks: one session of two hours 30 min sessions per week and was inspired by the environment, land and sea.

The two schools involved were; Cliffoney National School 3rd and 4th Class and Scoil Ursula National School 4th class.

About the Residency and Exhibition Artists

  • Karen Webster is an artist and educator working in the field of art and ecology since the early 2000's. Her practice is a combination of time spent wandering and wondering in the company of the more than human world, research, play and making. She is driven by curiosity and sees art making as a way of bringing back to life our intimate and innate relationship with the rest of the living world. Her exhibition work was inspired by the story of Giolla Bríd and the Seaweed.

  • Kathryn Maguire is a visual artist and educator whose practice incorporates socially engaged projects and environmental awareness projects. She creates sculptural installations and interventions, using a diverse range of materials and weaving her visual arts practice with educational facilitation methods, to explore ideas with communities and within the gallery space. Currently, her work is focused on geomythology and geology and landscape myths.

In October exhibition gallery tours and workshops took place at the Hyde Bridge Gallery, Sligo based on residency artists work.

The exhibition was run and funded by Sligo County Council Arts Service and the Arts Council of Ireland.
